We Are Giants Fans!

There is a whole debate about using the term "Gamer Babes" to identify women (especially young women like my daughters) who are San Francisco Giants fans. Some find it "cute," some find it sexist. We find it mildly sickening, but whenever I don my orange and black scarf and baseball cap, they don their Pence and Lincecum jerseys, and we grab our rally towels and head for AT&T Park, one thing we do know -- we are Giants fans!

So that is how we spent Mother's Day this year -- at a Giants game.
AT&T Park becons us!

Walking over the bridge to the park...
Love the huge mural and once you see that scoreboard, you are in game mode!
It was a full house for Mother's Day!
Often we are sitting in the second or even third tier, but this time we had great seats in the bottom section, overlooking the diamond where we could catch all the action easily.
Lou Seal, the Giants mascot, drove around with his "mom," tossing out goodies.
You can't beat Lou Seal as a mascot! He never speaks a word, but he has the moves! Here's a little clip of him getting his dance on with Keenan Cahill and Giants players Brian Wilson and Cody Ross: Dynamite! In case you are not familiar, Keenan Cahill has a unique story of his own. He was diagnosed with Maroteaux–Lamy syndrome and some of his lip sync videos are to promote fundraisers for his condition.

Lou Seal has been inside that 25 lb. head for many years now! Want to know more about this devoted man? Read this entertaining interview: Inside the 25 pound face!  Hey, who can't love a guy who's flirty with women of all ages!

It was fantastic, as always! Behind the Marlins many innings, and then in the last inning the Giants came through and won the game!  Whoo-hoo! Baseball season is in full swing and we're lovin' it!

Mother's Day in San Francisco

Mother's Day is such a nice holiday. My own mother deserved a day to be treated well, shown how much she was appreciated and loved, pampered a bit. I miss her. My sisters and I always call to wish each other a Happy Mother's Day. We know how hard the job of being a mother is and just want to acknowledge that in one another. My dad even wishes us a Happy Mother's Day.

This year Ash, Lys and I went up to San Francisco for the day.
It was windy all day, drizzling in the morning but sunnier in the afternoon. Those clouds were moving fast!

Our main ojbective was to start apartment hunting for when they move there this fall. We're glad we got an early start as it will take awhile to narrow down neighborhoods and convenience factors.
Alcatraz Island:We found a couple of apartment possibilities and then went up to Pier 39 whre the girls treated me to lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. They are great daughters and I am so blessed to have them in my life.

Love this big poster of Santana in the cafe shop. A couple of years ago I went to a Santana concert with a friend. It was fantastic and his music is timeless.
If you want to hear a bit of Santana, push the pause button on the playlist on the right menu bar, then come back here and push play:

Pier 39:
We were home in time to catch "The Amazing Race" which happened to culminate in San Francisco so it was fun to watch (though I was rooting for the cowboys who came in 2nd place).

It was a wonderful Mother's Day and I hope other moms were able to spend the day with their dear ones as well.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all of you who have cared for a child, a mom, a pet, or a sibling that brought out your maternal instinct. I had a nice Mother's Day. Lys brought me a lovely arrangement of pink roses this morning, then picked up the tab for our lunch. Tonight she gave me a beautiful card, a gift certificate to Starbucks and a gift certificate for a pedicure (a couple of my favorite treats). What a thoughtful girl, eh? This afternoon we went to see "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" -- chick-flicks remain one of our guilty pleasures. This one is not worthy of wasting time on, however. Despite the thumbs-down film, we had some great conversations before and after. I was disappointed to have missed Ash's phone call attempts from England. The time difference makes it such a challenge to connect sometimes, but she wished me a Happy Mum's Day on my answering machine. Ash and I shared a warm, indepth conversation on the phone yesterday, anyway. I'm incredibly blessed to be the mother of such wonderful daughters.

My own mom has been gone for 13 years now, and I miss her. She was a wonderful mom, with good old common sense about raising kids -- she was our Mom first and foremost, but also could be a great friend. There was a creek behind our neighborhood in Ohio where wild violets grew. I often went down to the creek and would pick violets until they burst out of my little fists. I'd then take them home to my mom to put in a vase. If Mom were here today, I'd give her a big vase full of violets for being the wonderful woman she was.
